The UK produces over 5 million tonnes of different types and qualities waste wood every year. Of this, just 17% of the highest quality waste timber and wooden packaging is recycled in the panel board industry. Due to its manufactured composition, extracting energy by using wood as a biomass fuel is the only viable alternative to landfill for most waste wood.

The added benefit of working with Totus is our complementary service offering. Through our experienced hazardous waste division, we have energy recovery solutions for wood streams including railway sleepers and telegraph poles that have undergone chemical treatment processes such as CCA (copper, chromium and arsenate oxides) and therefore cannot be recycled. Such hazardous streams need to be sent to specialised energy recovery facilities for heat and power generation. Our established network of outlets throughout mainland Europe and Scandinavia, offer our UK and European client base options for this specialist fuel stream.
